This oatmeal bath recipe is great for its skin softening and dry skin relief. Especially recommended for relief from itching associated with psoriasis, eczema, chicken pox, insect bites, etc. Ingredients: 1 cup oats (unflavored instant, whole or rolled) Muslin bag, cheese cloth, or old stocking (if following the unground recipe below) Optional: 1/4 c loose or powdered green tea, OR Lavender essential oil, OR Mint leaves, OR Powdered milk Unground Oatmeal Bath Recipe Steps & Usage: 1. Combine the oats and any additives, and put in the bag or stocking. 2. Tie the bag so it's under the faucet as you fill the tub - if using the bath to soothe itching or inflammed skin, use warm, not hot water. 3. Let the bag float in the water as you bathe, or use it as a washcloth over your body. Ground/Colloidal Oatmeal Bath Recipe For this recipe, instead of putting the oats (and optional additives) into a bag, you grind the ingredients to a very fine mixture, either in a coffee grinder or food processor on the highest setting. You can use whole or rolled oats for this recipe. Steps & Usage:
1. Grind the oats in a grinder. Check for doneness by mixing a teaspoon into a glass of warm water. If the water becomes milky, it's fine enough. If the pieces sink to the bottom, you need to keep grinding.* 2. If using green tea or herbs, grind them fine with a mortar and pestle (unless using powdered green tea). 3. For essential oils, mix them in with a teaspoon of a carrier oil of your choice, for better dispersal. 4. Mix all ingredients together, and add to warm bath water. 5. Soak your way to softern, smoother (less itchy) skin! *If you can't get the mixture fine enough, put it in a muslin bag or old stocking. The fine parts will get through, and the rest will be like the unground oatmeal bath recipe.
